The older I get (and this is happening!) the more I am in awe of the act of giving.
Today, I was reminded of this with a delivery of an $11 gift. Ed and I made the purchase together and I so wish he had been with me to see the expression on the face of the receiver. Truly, we had no idea how touched this person would be by this tiny effort. It was one of those things that a response of "Oh, cool, I was thinking it would be nice to have one of these…" would have been more than adequate.
And instead, in a simple act of gratitude, I received the gift of knowing it matters that we care, it matters that we listen to each other and perhaps there are no small surprises.
"Gratitude is the memory of the heart."
