Christmas tradition #2 – The annual Holiday Concert by the Twin Cities Gay Men’s Chorus — there is nothing to compare to this incredible choir. And there is no other holiday even that leaves both Ed and me more in the spirit of the season. This group of men, and their audience, truly understand love and joy and it flows through not only the music but every part of the event.
On Saturday, as we were rushing to the Ted Mann Theater, on the campus of the U of MN, we noticed a dog walking along with the crowds and it became clear that he/she was not with a family. After she tried diligently to enter the concert hall, Ed managed to get ahold of her by the collar and thus we spent the next 35 minutes holding on to a dog whose tag said "Casey Jones". Keep in mind, it is winter in Minnesota and were were standing outside, dressed for an indoor event, with a medium sized dog (55 pounds?) who really wanted to continue her adventure. We were able to reach her family on the telephone, however, they were not able to find their way to the concert hall on the campus. It was all kind of a comedy of errors and many, many patrons walked by and chatted about the dilemma, some even going in and out checking on the progress of the return of Casey to her family. Just as the men took the stage, a young woman from the box office volunteered to take Casey Jones a block away to where "Dad" was in the family car.
In the end, we saw a wonderful concert, filled our heads with visions of sugar plums, our hearts with joy and got a dog back home in the midst of it all.
